Leonhard Kurz has launched the Kurz Label Weeks, an “in-house show” which will continue until the end of October.

The thin-film technology specialist said he had been excited to meet with customers and industry contacts at Labelexpo in Brussels, but when the show was canceled he took advantage to “proactively react to the situation” with its own event.

Beginning last month and running through October 28 at its headquarters in Fürth, Germany, Kurz Label Weeks will see Leonhard Kurz and several affiliates showcasing products for the hot stamping, cold transfer and digital embellishment, as well as security labels and thermal transfer ribbons.

“On the one hand, our motivation was to bring the industry closer together and to meet the need for personal and direct exchange – not by camera and microphone, but face to face,” said Stéphane Royère, Head of Sector at packaging and printing business at Kurz.

“On the other hand, in the label and packaging industry, it often makes a huge difference whether you just hear and read something or experience it firsthand. Here I could cite as an example the live demonstration of a new machine.

The group held a virtual press conference last month to show off some of the kit that visitors can also physically view. Machines on display include the DM-Uniliner 2D from Kurz subsidiary MPrint and the new DM-Uniliner 3D from Kurz subsidiary Steinemann DPE.

Both machines are said to offer cost-effective and resource-efficient decoration, while the digital metallization units can be used independently of the existing printing system and process.

They also enable digital finishing in pre-print and post-print processing, “ensuring the greatest possible flexibility”.

The company said Print week the DM-Uniliner 3D was launched in early 2022 and is based on a modular concept. Reaching speeds of up to 100m/min and with “exceptional precision”, it is priced between €400,000 (£336,000) and €700,000 depending on configuration.

Also live at the show, Kurz dresses labels and packaging with, among other things, varnishing and metallization effects.

It also presents the monojet 324, a module developed by MPrint. This UV inkjet printing system is suitable for printing labels with QR codes or barcodes, batch numbers, etc.

An on-site demonstration shows how labels can be enhanced using the 324 monojet and the Distorun cold transfer unit, for example with unique 2D barcodes such as Kurz Digital’s Digital Product Passport or effects 3D shiny and metallic Trustseal SFX technology.

Kurz also offers a digital platform on which exhibited machines and products can be explored, an additional service for those who cannot travel to Fürth in person during the trade fair period.

The Kurz Group employs more than 5,500 people at more than 30 sites worldwide and produces to standardized quality and environmental standards in Europe, Asia and the United States. It has a worldwide network of subsidiaries, representatives and sales offices, including the local subsidiary Kurz UK.

Salon innovations powered by electricity

Zero-emission operation is one of the main trends in the construction machinery industry. Here is a first glimpse of the novelties expected at bauma. The world’s leading trade fair for construction machinery, building materials and mining machinery as well as construction vehicles and equipment will be held from October 24 to 30 at the Munich trade fair site.

To reduce greenhouse gas emissions in line with climate protection goals, more and more construction machines and vehicles are being developed with electric drives. Other benefits are also fueling this trend. For example, electric motors are quiet, which makes them suitable for use in low-noise areas, such as near hospitals or on city construction sites. They also protect operators and the environment from exposure to direct exhaust gases, allowing many work processes to be carried out even in poorly ventilated areas. Another benefit is that electric motors are considered low-maintenance and efficient, meaning they ensure low running and energy costs. It is therefore logical that “The road to zero emissions” is also one of the key topics of this year’s bauma. Many exhibitors have already announced brand new e-solutions for the show.

Reversible vibrating plate with battery
These include the first direct-drive battery-powered reversible vibratory plate. The APU3050e from the manufacturer Wacker Neuson uses the proven hydraulic adjustment system to change direction, as in conventional models. With a working width of 50cm and a centrifugal force of 30kN, the machine is easy to control and has the lowest overall height of any reversible vibratory plate on the market, making it ideal for use in narrow trenches.

Zero-emission compaction with e-tandem rollers
In the future, electrically driven tandem rollers may be the answer wherever emission-free compaction is needed on a larger scale. Hamm AG will present eight models of the HD CompactLine series as a world premiere at bauma. They are powered by a maintenance-free lithium-ion battery with a capacity of approximately 23 kWh. In addition, the energy released by the traction and vibration motors during braking is used in recuperation. The battery has enough capacity for a full working day. The electric drive also significantly reduces noise emissions, which makes the e-tandem rollers suitable for all areas that require particularly quiet compaction. Since these settings also often require a low vibration load, the compaction specialist introduces an electric combination roller with oscillation in addition to the rollers with electric vibration and oscillation.

All-electric compact track loader concept
The T7X, still in the design phase, is the world’s first all-electric compact track loader. Its manufacturer, Bobcat, will use bauma to continue collecting feedback from customers across different segments. Its objective is to be able to better assess the market opportunities for the machine in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. With its 62 kWh lithium-ion battery, the T7X can run continuously for four hours. Its mobile payload is just under 1,400 kg. Unlike all other loaders in the world, the new machine requires virtually no fluids: Bobcat has completely replaced the traditional hydraulic system with an electric drive system consisting of electric cylinders and electric drive motors. The only liquid in the machine is about four liters of environmentally friendly coolant.

All-electric drive concrete mixer
Putzmeister envisions a future with all-electric concrete transport with its iONTRON e-mixer. The vehicle’s battery has a capacity of 350 kWh, which means that one battery charge is enough for five to six trips in urban areas, usually enough for a full working day. The vehicle can simply be recharged if further trips are planned. The blender can charge to full power overnight on a DC charging station. Its virtually silent operation allows unlimited use even in locations with strict noise regulations, a significant competitive advantage when it comes to tenders in metropolitan areas. Rising fossil fuel prices are also making e-drive an economical alternative.

Electro-hydraulic lifting
Tadano’s E-Pack is an electro-hydraulic system with an integrated 32 kW electric motor allowing silent and emission-free operation of the crane. This solution was presented at the last bauma in 2019. At the time, it was only available for one crane vehicle. At this year’s largest trade fair in the world, Tadano will show that in the meantime five of its AC cranes can be ordered with the E-Pack or existing cranes can be retrofitted.

The Japanese manufacturer will also offer a preview of the world’s first all-electric all-terrain crane. The machine is currently in advanced development and is expected to be on the market at the end of 2023. It will be able to travel to and from the site and perform all the lifting there using only the energy supplied by its batteries.

Other exhibitors have already announced new e-machines, but want to wait for bauma to “let the cat out of the bag”. These include the successor model to the 5055e all-wheel drive electric wheel loader from Kramer-Werke GmbH. In addition, the company promises a new electric telescopic loader, without revealing more details for the moment. And that’s another reason why a visit to the Munich Trade Fair in October is well worth your time.

Thieves got away with millions of dollars worth of jewelry and gemstones in an armored vehicle from Brink’s in California between trade shows, authorities say.

The jewelry was loaded onto a truck at an event hosted by the International Gem and Jewelry Show in San Mateo, near San Francisco, on July 10, and shipped overnight to another event at the Pasadena Convention Center .

The robbery took place at an isolated truck stop in Lebec, Southern California, when the semi-trailer’s armed security officers drove away from the vehicle. It was discovered in the early hours of July 11 when guards noticed the lock had been tampered with.

The investigation has not yet determined whether it was an opportunistic theft or a targeted robbery, with the thieves watching the vehicle in transit.

A spokesperson for the International Gem and Jewelry Show said 18 victims reported losses worth $100 million from the theft, although Brink’s statement put the value at less than $10 million. .

The discrepancy likely arose because jewelry sellers — which are often small businesses — sometimes undervalue goods in transit to reduce insurance costs.

“We are working with law enforcement, and we will fully reimburse our customers for the value of their property that was stolen, in accordance with the terms of our contract,” the security company said in a statement.

Cargo security firm CargoNet said in a recent report that cargo theft losses in the United States and Canada reached $19 million in the first quarter of 2022, representing a 73% increase from the same period of 2021 despite the number of flights remaining fairly stable.

A live demonstration was the WALLTeq M-380 multifunction bridge in combination with a carpentry table. The software partner granIT presented the possibilities offered by its MES system for production planning and management. In the service area, in addition to the WEINMANN Service and Academy teams, our consultants from SCHULER Consulting were also available for meetings.

The letters “P” for partnership, “I” for investment and “M” for the German word “Mitarbeitende” (employees) were particularly highlighted in the new stand design and thus drew attention to priority topics in the industry.

  • Where can I find partners with whom I can succeed together?

  • Which investments are good, and when?

  • How to keep valuable employees in the company, what solutions exist for the shortage of qualified workers?

The topic “I like in investments” was particularly addressed in the interviews with our SCHULER team: Visitors from the timber construction sector are currently mainly looking for support with investment and strategy advice. The pressing questions here are how the next stage of growth can be mastered – whether by expanding the portfolio, e.g. entering item production, increasing production (greenfield/brownfield planning) or analyzing how current resources can be used efficiently. These are questions that companies of all sizes are bringing to the table. In this sense, the “I” for us also means an individual solution – the basis for lasting success.

One month, two fairs

Rich in impressions and time for personal encounters, two intense and exciting weeks are coming to an end. We thank you for your visit and the good discussions! We are already looking forward to the next time.

KUCHING (July 9): A total of 423 booths will be set up for this year’s Kuching Festival to be held from July 29 to August 21 at Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Dewan Masyarakat.

There will be 333 stalls for the food fair and 90 stalls for the trade fair.

Its organizing chairman, Goh Tze Hui, said they had finalized the stands and no more stands would be allowed.

“As can be seen, awnings have been set up near MBKS Dewan Masyarakat to pave the way for the 24-day Kuching Festival.

“This year’s Garden Show will see new light decorations, which should allow people to take photos for good memories. The booths of the show will be inside the Dewan Masyarakat,” he said during the South Kuching Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng’s Facebook Live “Shall WEE Talk” today.

Goh also said that no straws or plastic bags would be allowed during the festival, which was themed “Kuching Best Creative Food and Culture.”

He also reminded everyone that the council banned polystyrene in 2019, while plastic straws were also banned from all hawker centers under MBKS jurisdiction.

He therefore advised festival-goers to bring their own recycling bags or containers.

To better save the environment, he said MBKS hired a company to collect used cooking oil from food stall operators during the festival, which he said was to prevent them from throwing the cooking oil away. used by pouring it into the ditch.

Goh added that dinner, takeout and delivery will be offered this time around.

“Tables and chairs will be lined up for festival-goers – with social distancing observed,” he added.

Meanwhile, Wee said the 2022 Mayor’s Walk will be held on August 28, and free t-shirts will be given out to people who take part in the walk.

He added that the grand finale of Kuching’s Got Talent, a joint activity with the Kuching Festival, will be held on August 14.

Wee, in response to a question, said eight Chinese clan organizations will offer their respective specialties throughout the festival this year.

He said that each of these clan organizations will have three days to offer their specialties.

“We will announce which Chinese clan will offer their delicacies on which days at a later date,” Wee added.

Organizers of the key event ProSweets have given the go-ahead to hold the event in 2023, at a later “single” revised date alongside ISM in Cologne, with a shortened schedule, reports Neill Barston.

Koelnmesse has confirmed that the supplier event will now be held from April 23-25, following consultation with exhibitors and sponsors for the annual showcase of confectionery equipment, systems and ingredients. Previous editions, including this year’s show in Germany, have taken place over four days, but it was felt that in light of the conditions, a more concise presentation next year would be warranted.

The latest development follows an announcement several weeks ago that ISM would leave its traditional venue at the end of January, with organizers citing “unprecedented supply chain, energy and consumer behavior challenges.” that had an impact on the industry.

Industry concerns had been raised at Confectionery Production over the change in timing of ISM and ProSweets, given the timing of the major global trade show Interpack focusing on packaging and processing technologies to be held in the city. neighboring Düsseldorf a few weeks later than the events in Cologne, from May 4 to 10.

However, Koelnmesse felt there was enough positive response to warrant continuing with ProSweets, with its organizing teams now establishing a schedule for the event.

Claire Steinbrück, new Vice President Food Technology Trade Fair Management, Koelnmesse, said: “Feedback from our customers on the survey we conducted and the many personal discussions with our exhibitors underscore the need for execution and the offer of a ProSweets Cologne 2023. – Special edition in April. Regardless of the postponed date, the secret to the success of ProSweets Cologne 2023 has also been confirmed – and that is the fact that it is taking place alongside ISM: their unique constellation covering the entire value chain production and supply industries and trade . We are therefore confident that exhibitors at ProSweets Cologne 2023 will be able to network with relevant key players and do business in the usual way during this special edition,”

Important partners of ProSweets Cologne such as the German Agricultural Society (DLG), Sweets Global Network eV (SG), the German Confectionery Industry (BDSI) and the Central College of the German Confectionery Industry eV (ZDS) will participate in the fair as usual and will help shape the program of events and conferences and inform visitors about the latest developments, for example in global raw material sourcing or sustainable packaging concepts.
