The meeting on the impacts of Covid-19 – but the World of Photonics Congress will go digital between June 20 and June 24, 2021.
Show delayed until April 2022; but the virtual congress still takes place in June 2021.
Messe München, the organizer of LASER World of Photonics, the trade fair for photonic components, systems and applications, has announced the postponement of this year’s gathering in Munich, Germany, until spring 2022.
However, this year’s World of Photonics Congress is still expected to take place in digital format on the dates originally scheduled for June 20-24, 2021.
Messe München’s statement says: “Due to existing travel restrictions and the current unclear Covid-19 situation, we have decided to postpone LASER for ten months.
“One of the main reasons for this decision is the large share of international exhibitors and visitors, representing more than half of the total number of current conditions. Holding LASER in June 2021 would prevent the show from living up to its global leading salon standard and providing the on-site platform for innovations and products with in-depth technical discussions.
Dr Reinhard Pfeiffer, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Messe München, said: “With the new date we can offer our clients planning security in a timely manner. With this postponement of the trade fair event, we are laying the foundations for a successful in-person international trade fair and following the wishes of our exhibitors and visitors.
The organizer said they worked out the details of the postponement of the planned show in close consultation with the Exhibitor Advisory Board. A clear majority of exhibitors questioned are in favor of the date change.
“We support the postponement to April 2022 and are already looking forward to the time when the photonics industry can certainly come together again in person,” said Dr Wilhelm Kaenders, Chairman of the LASER Exhibitor Advisory Board and member of the board of directors of Toptica. Photonics.
At this year’s Virtual World of Photonic Congress, there will be five conferences with over 40 sub-themes. The range of subjects will span from basic research to applied sciences, laser science, photonics and quantum optics, optical metrology, digital optical technologies and biomedical optics to use of lasers in production engineering.
Webinar series starts in March
Messe München added that until the next in-person meeting in Munich, “a new series of webinars will facilitate knowledge exchange and communication in the industry”. The first two editions of “LASER World of PHOTONICS Talk” will focus on the trending topic of quantum technology. The series will begin on March 3 at 11:00 a.m. CET and will be broadcast live. Participation via the LASER World of PHOTONICS site is free.
