Malaysia to host international timber fair in November

The Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) has announced the return of its international wood and woodworking exhibition, the Malaysian Wood Expo (MWE) 2022 after a two-year hiatus.

MTC President Norrida Yusoff said the show, aimed at elevating the industry amid the epidemic, should inspire new solutions and greater opportunities to source new products in the wood industry.

She said the council expects a high number of serious international buyers who will boost business opportunities for exhibitors at the show.

“Everything has been doubled, from the exhibition space to the initiatives put in place to make this show a resounding and profitable success for our show attendees,” she said in a statement today.

She added that the Malaysian timber industry saw notable gains in exports for the first quarter of 2022 as global demand for timber products increased.

“Exports of timber and timber products from January to March this year saw an increase of 8.2% to RM6.54 billion compared to the same period in 2021 and it is encouraging to see that the The industry is showing such momentum in exports,” she said.

Meanwhile, MTC Managing Director Muhtar Suhaili said MTC expects more importers to join business matchmaking programs, especially its inbound purchase mission.

He said that in 2019, the inbound procurement mission, which was conducted in conjunction with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade), generated sales of RM118.93 million.

“Despite our target of RM25m in MWE 2019, we raked in RM140m in sales. We hope to do much better this year as many investors and business owners put the pandemic behind them and prepare for more face-to-face business transactions at trade shows,” he added.

MWE 2022, which will be held from November 20 to 22 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Center, is jointly organized with Panels & Furniture Group and supported by the Ministry of Plantation and Commodity Industries.

The trade show will showcase wood raw materials and products such as wood flooring, moldings, doors, window and door frames, panel products, wood pallets as well as woodworking machinery and cutting tools, abrasives, wood related equipment and much more. – Bernama, June 20, 2022.
