Negros craftsmanship and delicacies take center stage at Negros Trade Fair 2022

The Negros trade show is back with its world-class local products in 2022!

The oldest provincial trade fair returns in 2022!

The Negros Trade Fair, now in its 36th year, is back after two years to once again showcase local products from their province. This year’s theme, “Hidlaw,” is a Hiligaynon term meaning yearning or yearning. From September 20-25, discover their incredible local crafts and a variety of products at the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati City. The Negros Producers Association (ANP) and the provincial government of Negros Occidental organized the fair.

Negro Fair 2022

According ANP Vice President for Advocacy Mary Ann Colmenares, the theme is aptly named due to their desire to return to the show, which was shut down for two years due to the coronavirus pandemic. Now that it’s back, the show aims to show the resilience of the Negros spirit and how it can bounce back from the pandemic-induced hiatus.

Arlene Infanta, President of the PNA, also shares that she is excited for the return of the Negros Trade Fair. The pandemic nearly dismantled ANP, the showroom, and we lost most of our staff and members, but this return only validates our resilience and indomitable spirit. Our faith and belief that with a collective effort, we can once again present Negrense products, no matter how impossible the task at hand.

In recent years, preparation for the trade fair took about 8-10 months, but this year’s installment only took two months to prepare; it just goes to show our desire to come back and show everyone why we are the oldest living room in the country.

Part of their effort to amplify Negros Trade Fair 2022 was to invite several travel writers and content creators to explore Bacolod and nearby towns in Negros Occidental. Attendees got to taste Negro specialties, meet the artisans and see them produce their crafts up close and personal, and hear the business ideas and success stories of local Negros at the Hub.

Humble beginnings

The Negros Trade Fair was established in 1985 by Metro Manila-based Negrenses. The idea of creating the trade fair was sparked by news of the sugar farm workers on the island of Negros. Its first trade show was held at the Makati Carpark, where Negros merchandise was later brought to Manila free of charge. The salon then had the vision to organize a formal association; thus, the ANP was born. Now, the ANP has producer exhibitors made up of people from industries such as food, gifts, housewares, fashion, natural and organic products, tourism and furniture.

Notable Negros Trade Fairs

The last physical Negros Trade Fair event took place in 2019, showcasing the culture, crafts, heritage and art of Negrense. In 2011, the fair added a new product line, namely Natural and Organic, which features sustainable Negros products. And in 2010, the show celebrated its silver anniversary, where they also launched their Silver Tiangge coffee table book, showcasing the rich cuisine and culture of the island of Negros.
